The Graduate Diploma of Mathematics Education at The University of Notre Dame Australia provides a short postgraduate study program for graduates of other disciplines who need to understand and use mathematics professionally. The program equips you with the capacity, skills, and confidence to teach up to and including Extension 1 and 2 mathematics.

- 25 Units of Credit from one (1) Core Curriculum Course
Entry Requirements
- Possession of a Bachelor’s award (AQF level 7 qualification) or equivalent in Initial Teacher Education; or
- Possession of a Bachelor’s award (AQF level 7 qualification) and concurrent study in a Master of Teaching (AQF level 9 qualification)
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the Graduate Diploma of Mathematics Education, graduates will be able to:
- Solve complex problems in Algebra, Geometry, Statistics, Calculus, and Discrete Mathematics
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills, including formulating and modeling practical and abstract problems in mathematical terms
- Apply mathematical principles, concepts, techniques, and technology to solve practical and abstract problems
- Communicate theoretical concepts in Mathematics to a range of audiences
- Demonstrate the application of knowledge and skills with ethical responsibility and accountability for further learning; and
- Combine theoretical mathematical knowledge with practical educational approaches to teaching mathematics.
Career Opportunities
The Graduate Diploma in Mathematics is designed for experienced educators. It will prepare you to teach mathematics in Catholic primary and secondary schools, government departments, including the Department of Education. Other opportunities include management and business, non-government organizations (NGOs), community-based organizations, and training & professional development.
Real-World Experience
You will learn from our academics, who are leaders in their field. There are no practicum requirements for this program.

This Program has the following loan scheme(s) available for eligible students:
- Domestic Fee-Paying: A domestic fee-paying place is a place at university where the student is responsible for the full cost of the program.
Eligible domestic fee-paying students may apply for the FEE-HELP loan scheme, which assists eligible fee-paying students with the payment of all, or part, of their tuition fees, not including additional study costs such as accommodation or textbooks. Your FEE-HELP debt will be indexed each year in line with the Consumer Price Index.
