Program Overview

The Graduate Diploma of Perioperative Nursing is a postgraduate program designed for working professionals in the perioperative environment. The program can be completed in one year of full-time study and is offered in partnership with various health services in Western Australia.

Master of Nursing (Perioperative)

Students who complete the Graduate Diploma of Perioperative Nursing may apply for the Master of Nursing (Perioperative), which requires an additional two semesters of part-time study.


Entry Requirements

The following entry requirements apply to this program:


  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia or provisional registration, whichever is applicable at the time of commencement
  • Nursing or other appropriate degree or the equivalent
  • Minimum of one year relevant post-registration nursing experience
  • Currently working as a Registered Nurse in the perioperative environment of a partnership facility
  • Current employment contract for the term of the program with an approved health service

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Graduate Diploma of Perioperative Nursing, graduates will be able to:


  1. Demonstrate knowledge of concepts and principles framing perioperative nursing care
  2. Apply advanced technical competence in perioperative nursing, with demonstration of portability of learning from one specialty to another
  3. Demonstrate leadership and interpersonal communication skills within the interprofessional perioperative environment
  4. Provide evidenced-based quality care within an ethical and legal framework; and
  5. Utilize technology to enable research and reflective practice within the perioperative environment

A Graduate Diploma of Perioperative Nursing will give you the qualifications required to work as a perioperative nurse.


Real-World Experience

You will learn from our academics, who are leaders in their field. There are no practicum requirements for this program, although students are required to be employed by an agreement partner for the duration of the program.

  • Domestic Fee-Paying: A domestic fee-paying place is a place at university where the student is responsible for the full cost of the program.

Eligible domestic fee-paying students may apply for the FEE-HELP loan scheme, which assists eligible fee-paying students with the payment of all, or part, of their tuition fees, not including additional study costs such as accommodation or textbooks. Your FEE-HELP debt will be indexed each year in line with the Consumer Price Index.
