About the MS in Anatomical Sciences Program

The scientific focus of this program provides students the pathway to enter into a range of professional schools including: medical, dental, osteopathic, chiropractic, optometry, physical therapy, and veterinary. This program aims to challenge students at the graduate level and enhance their qualifications, while also preparing them for a prospective career in teaching anatomy. Through experiential learning, students engage in hands-on experiences that allow them to learn valuable skills and apply their knowledge in real-life situations.

This program provides the background necessary for students to teach anatomy and physiology at the college level, which is in high demand due to an explosion of new health science careers and educational programs throughout Indiana and the United States. Courses at the undergraduate level are in the most demand, particularly in the fields of nursing and sports medicine.

Program Length & Format

The MS in Anatomical Sciences is 30 credit hours. The program can be completed in 12 months full-time (3 semesters) or 24 months part-time (4 semesters). UIndy undergraduate students are eligible to begin graduate coursework during their senior year to better prepare them for medical and allied health professional schools. Classes are offered on campus, meeting face-to-face during the day.

Curriculum

The Master of Science in Anatomical Sciences program is designed to give students a solid foundation to prepare them for professional programs in the biomedical areas, such as medical and dental school. The curriculum offers a strong background in anatomy and physiology, while the ability to take additional biology electives helps students craft their expertise in specific areas that interest them the most. A Master of Science in Anatomical Sciences can serve as a bridge for students who want to apply to these schools but need to boost their credentials. This program does not require research or a thesis.

When Can I Start?

Students can begin the program in the Summer (May) or Fall (August). For priority consideration, the deadline for completed applications is April 1 for Summer entry and July 15 for Fall entry.

In addition, our students often find on-campus part-time jobs in the Biology Department laboratories and other campus facilities, including positions as teaching assistants and tutors in the Anatomy & Physiology Learning Center and the BUILD center.
