Course Details
This introductory course will explore the Canadian criminal justice system, with emphasis on the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Learners will study the structure and jurisdictions of the various levels of government and the duties and responsibilities of the courts, justice and public safety services personnel. Learners will track offenders, victims and witnesses through the criminal justice system. The course will focus on the unique problems Aboriginal peoples face when dealing with the legal system. Aboriginal approaches to justice, including alternative resolutions, will also be defined and explored.
