Family Justice Counsellor Practicum

Course Details

This practicum allows family justice counsellors (FJCs) to gain experience by observing and being mentored while conducting various functions of their role. The students can apply their course learnings and dispute resolution training while completing a range of practicum tasks. Tasks in this experiential training include: conducting mediation and shuttle mediation; assisting with court processes and documents, conducting assessment interviews, interviewing children, explaining interjurisdictional support orders (ISO), and formalizing parenting plans (Written Agreements and Consent Orders). This practicum will also expose students to office procedures, Family Justice Services Division (FJSD) policy, resources for FJSD employees, and resources for families experiencing separation and divorce. Completion of this practicum also includes the requirements and steps for Family Mediation Canada Family Relations certification.
