Special Topics: Alternate Fuel Vehicle Safety Training for First Responders

Course Details

The use of electric and alternative fuel vehicles continues to increase. Auto industry analysts predict that one third of all cars purchased will be electric vehicles by 2020. The use of this technology brings new challenges for emergency responders. While the hazards of electric vehicle technology are not necessarily more serious than those of internal combustion engines, they are different and need to be understood by those who respond to emergencies involving electric and hybrid electric vehicles. The purpose of this course is to introduce this new technology to emergency responders so that they will be able to perform operations safely and effectively. The training will dispel many of the myths surrounding this technology, and shed light on the vehicle safety features that protect both occupants and responders.
