Terrorism and Society

Course Details

This course will examine the nature, extent and basis of terrorism as a recognized phenomenon throughout the world and its impact on society. Theoretical explanations in a comparative perspective will be employed to examine the impact of political, religious and state terrorism on various countries and the response of the respective governments on episodes and threats of terrorism. While concentrating on sociological and criminological theory, the approach to this topic is multi-disciplinary and will involve other fields, including economics, world history, political science, psychology and deviant behaviour, criminal intelligence, and systems theory, among others.
