MSc Applied Artificial Intelligence and User Experience

Course Overview

This practical Master's combines AI, Data, UX, and Psychology to equip students with the skills to design and interrogate AI systems with a clear understanding of human behavior.


Programme Overview

The course brings together AI, UX Research, and Applied Psychology, providing a thorough understanding of Data and AI techniques, as well as theoretical concepts with practical applications. Students will learn to apply Psychology and AI principles, enrich the design of AI solutions through good practice UX, and use Data, AI, and Applied Psychology to inform the design of prototypes.


Career Options

Graduates will have a thorough knowledge of Data & AI and Applied Psychology & UX, enabling them to work in various roles, such as UI Designer, AI Architect, Data Scientist, or Machine Learning Software Engineer.


Modules (Subject to change)

Year 1

  • Introduction to Data Science (MAT510): An introduction to data science and the typical data life cycle, covering real-world problems and challenges involving the use of data in industry, science, and the public sector.
  • User Experience Research (CMP513): Students will design a data-driven experiment to investigate human behaviors and understand the process of selecting and capturing pertinent data to answer specific questions.
  • Human Psychology: In what ways are we all the same (PSY555): Students will learn how psychology works as a science and participate in experiments that deepen their understanding of human psychology and its application to AI development.
  • Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (CMP511): Students will develop AI specialist knowledge and skills to develop user-facing solutions that demonstrate their understanding of human behaviors.
  • Applied Analytics Case Studies (CMP512): This module helps consolidate knowledge of applied analytics to analyze human behaviors and UX, based on case studies that highlight the limitations of the state of the art or novel use of the latest theories and technologies.
  • Human Psychology: Why are we different (PS567): Students will gain a critical and comprehensive understanding of the main factors that create diversity in human behavior and how this diversity is studied.
  • Masters Project (1) (CMP504): Students will select, plan, conduct, and write up a research-based investigation for the Masters Project, including the selection of appropriate research and experimental methods, the collection and analysis of data/information, and the evaluation and communication of findings.

Entry Requirements

  • UK Entry: Applicants should have a minimum of a lower second-class (2:2) honors degree in Anatomy & Physiology, Biology and Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Computing, Engineering, Game Design, Maths, Physics, or Psychology.
  • International Entry: Applicants who do not cover the appropriate subjects during their degree will be considered if they have relevant industry experience.
