Entry requirements:


  • Recognised UK Bachelor's degree, or international equivalent, in a social science discipline.
  • Qualifications in other subjects will be assessed on their merits.
  • Previous education and experience, equivalent to a degree-level qualification, which includes suitable preliminary training.
  • English language proficiency (see online learning English requirements).

Course Overview

Organisations need managers with a thorough understanding of public finance so that they can make financial decisions and design and operate financial systems for collecting, spending and accounting for public expenditure.


Structure

  • Students can study any two of the following modules:
    • Financial Reporting (30 credits)
    • Macroeconomic Policy and Financial Markets (30 credits)
    • Public Financial Management: Audit and Compliance (30 credits)
    • Public Financial Management: Planning and Performance (30 credits)
    • Public Financial Management: Revenue (30 credits)
    • The IMF and Economic Policy (30 credits)

Teaching and Learning

  • Students are individually assigned an academic tutor for the duration of the module.
  • Two assignments are required for each module, worth 15% of the total mark.
  • A three-hour examination is held at the end of each module, worth 70% of the total mark.

    • Readings (journal articles, book extracts, case studies)
    • Virtual learning environment (VLE) with discussion forums and access to electronic journals.
