Course Overview
This course prepares experienced practitioners for moving into First Contact Musculoskeletal Practice roles in Primary and/or Community Care and continuing onwards towards Advanced Practice.

Location
Blended learning, with taught elements on campus at the University of Winchester.
Learning and Teaching
This short course utilizes a blended approach of online resources, practical face-to-face teaching, seminars, and work-based learning and assessment. Self-reflection and lifelong learning skills are important components, both for assessment and professional and personal development. Inter-professional learning is embedded into the Learning and Teaching approach in both the University and the work-based components.
Modules
Year 1
- Topic 1: Initiatives supporting telehealth, defining telehealth, telemedicine, and remote consultations, digital capabilities framework, professional standards, considerations before setting up a remote consultation service, and aspects around confirming identity and safeguarding of the health care professional and service user.
- Topic 2: Review of what information is needed before the remote consultation, tips on communication with service users during a remote consultation, vulnerable children and service users, considerations for completing assessment and planning treatment, and considerations for record keeping and adherence to General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
- Topic 3: The use of audit as part of a remote consultation, what is an audit standard, and how to audit practice, why audit is important, and how audit can be used within a quality improvement framework as part of an audit cycle or quality improvement project.
Entry Requirements
- UK/International: Health Professionals
- Must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), or General Pharmaceutical Council (GPS) or similar appropriate regulatory body.
- Minimum of three years post-registration experience in a musculoskeletal setting plus two years of general consolidation of undergraduate learning.
- Must demonstrate the ability to work at Level 7 (Master's level). Students may have certificated Master's level learning, but applications are also welcome from students with significant relevant clinical experience.
- Application must be supported by the employer, who agrees to release the student to attend the taught content and supervision of the practice placement.
- Students will need to have an identified and appropriate Supervisor.
