The Post Graduate Certificate in Practice Education provides multi-professional education for health and social care practitioners undertaking a practice educator role. The programme is delivered flexibly, with significant opportunities for application, on-the-job learning, and research.

Assessment

• Assessments take the form of reviews of literature, reflective accounts of practice in relation to research, portfolios, case studies or workplace-based assignments
• Our validated courses may adopt a range of means of assessing your learning
• An indicative, and not necessarily comprehensive, list of assessment types you might encounter includes essays, portfolios, supervised independent work, presentations or written exams

Modules

Year 1

• Supporting Learners in Practice Education (30 Credits)
  • This introductory module will explore educational theories relevant to practice education and will develop skills in facilitating and constructing effective learning through a constructivist collaborative approach
  • Practice educators will explore barriers to learning and assessment in their setting as well more generic factors such as unconscious bias and student expectation
  • Managing a student who is failing to achieve learning objectives, risk of failure processes, and supporting learning in complex environments will also be explored
  • Issues of standardisation of marking, sensitivity, and inter-rater reliability will be evaluated in relation to fairness and equitability for students at different levels of their training, as well as ensuring feedback is fair and transparent
• Leading Learning in Practice Education (30 Credits)
  • This module enables practice educators to build on the Supporting Learners in Practice Education module to develop leadership skills in practice education
  • Practice educators will consider different modules of supervisory practice that could be adapted to different placement opportunities
  • They will review their current practice and develop enhanced leadership skills to develop supervisory skills in others
  • The module will consider the implementation of a multi-professional approach and the development of a culture of lifelong learning and supervision from novice through to advanced clinical practice
  • Professional issues, problems and concerns will be explored in the context of the practice area, and solutions and opportunities developed to extend practice education opportunities
  • Using this information, practice educators will develop an online learning package for novice practice educators that will support the context of transformational practice education

Entry Requirements

• UK: A first or second-class honours degree or equivalent professional experience
• International: Normally a first or second-class Honour degree awarded in the past 6 years or professional experience in the area of study
• English Language Requirements: IELTS 6.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in writing or equivalent

• I am also an Education Consultant for the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, an External Examiner at the London Southbank University’ Physiotherapy programmes
