Modules
Year 1
- Supporting Learners in Practice Education (30 Credits)
- This introductory module will explore educational theories relevant to practice education and will develop skills in facilitating and constructing effective learning through a constructivist collaborative approach
- Practice educators will explore barriers to learning and assessment in their setting as well more generic factors such as unconscious bias and student expectation
- Managing a student who is failing to achieve learning objectives, risk of failure processes, and supporting learning in complex environments will also be explored
- Issues of standardisation of marking, sensitivity, and inter-rater reliability will be evaluated in relation to fairness and equitability for students at different levels of their training, as well as ensuring feedback is fair and transparent
- Leading Learning in Practice Education (30 Credits)
- This module enables practice educators to build on the Supporting Learners in Practice Education module to develop leadership skills in practice education
- Practice educators will consider different modules of supervisory practice that could be adapted to different placement opportunities
- They will review their current practice and develop enhanced leadership skills to develop supervisory skills in others
- The module will consider the implementation of a multi-professional approach and the development of a culture of lifelong learning and supervision from novice through to advanced clinical practice
- Professional issues, problems and concerns will be explored in the context of the practice area, and solutions and opportunities developed to extend practice education opportunities
- Using this information, practice educators will develop an online learning package for novice practice educators that will support the context of transformational practice education
Entry Requirements
- UK: A first or second-class honours degree or equivalent professional experience
- International: Normally a first or second-class Honour degree awarded in the past 6 years or professional experience in the area of study
- English Language Requirements: IELTS 6.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in writing or equivalent
