Program Overview
Menswear MA
Overview
The Menswear MA course is designed for prospective students who are interested in establishing their own menswear brand. The course is part of the Fashion department at the University of Westminster.
Course Structure
The course is a one-year full-time program that consists of four core modules and two option modules.
Core Modules
- Tailoring and Archive: This module develops students' confidence and encourages imaginative, practical, and critical knowledge to the highest level. Students explore advanced tailoring skills and garment-based research skills in the Menswear Archive.
- Diagnostics and Identity: This module helps students explore their personal aesthetic in relation to their position in an industry context. Students develop a capsule collection that responds to socio-economic factors in the fashion industry.
- Sustainable Supply Chain Management: This module investigates the key stakeholders in the fashion and clothing supply chain, examining different supply chains and debating their efficiency, agility, and sustainable impact.
- Menswear Final Project: Collection and Portfolio: This module enables students to generate their own perspective on originality, creating specialist techniques and a working process that establishes them as influential and informed design professionals.
Option Modules
- Archive Research for Design: This module allows students to undertake research within the Westminster Menswear Archive, focusing on one garment or object to critically research its materiality in relation to its cultural context and meaning.
- Specialist Techniques: This module focuses on developing advanced specialist techniques and expertise, such as draping methods, innovative cutting and construction techniques, and creative experimentation with materiality and textile design.
- Fashion Entrepreneurship: This module combines practical knowledge of business development and planning with theory and finance models relevant to the fashion industry.
