The Tourism Management MA course is designed to give you the knowledge, analytical abilities, and skills you need to make a career as a tourism professional.   • Research Consultancy Project: Enables you to embark on an extended period of detailed and individual study on a tourism topic with the guidance of a supervisor.
  • Exploring Tourism: Systems and Stakeholders: Provides a comprehensive understanding of the tourism system, examining its components, dynamics, and interrelationships.
  • Designing and Marketing Tourism Experiences: Develops an in-depth understanding of the design and marketing of successful tourism experiences from the perspective of the supplier, the consumer, and the host community and environment.
  • **Sustainable Planning for the Visitor Economy: Provides a comprehensive understanding of the sustainable visitor economy through the lens of community planning and its core principles.
  • Responsible Destination Development: Develops your understanding of the multiple interconnected issues that destinations face and explores context and industry-specific responses.

  • Airline and Airport Management: Explores the demand for air travel and prospects for the future, evaluating the economic and commercial performance of airline and airport operators.
  • Global Events: Aims to give you the opportunity to gain in-depth real-world and theoretical knowledge of global event management.
  • Crisis Management and Resilience for Tourism and Events: Offers a comprehensive understanding of crisis management principles and resilience strategies.
  • Designing Event Spaces and Places: Draws on the analysis of events using place-based and urban design perspectives.
  • Regenerative Tourism in Cities: Explores the complex and fascinating relationship between cities and the visitor economy, focusing on how tourism shapes – and is at the same time shaped by – urban landscapes and experiences.
  • The Social and Cultural Value of Community Events: Explores how events can build community networks, relationships, and opportunities.
  • Contexts of Sustainable Heritage and Intervention: Develops your understanding of heritage sites by exploring contemporary issues, mapping techniques, and resources.
  • Environmental Policy, Assessment and Climate Change: Provides background on environmental policy and climate change, exploring implications for the built environment in a range of development contexts.

The course is accredited by the Tourism Management Institute (TMI), meaning you can be confident it will give you the knowledge, understanding, skills, and experience that will fully prepare you for a career in tourism destination management.


Entry Requirements

  • A minimum of a lower second-class honors degree (2:2).
  • Exceptionally, an applicant without these formal qualifications but with considerable work experience in tourism or related industries may be accepted at the discretion of the Course Leader.
  • If your first language is not English, you should have an IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each component.
