e-Immediate Life Support (e-ILS)
Overview
The e-ILS course is suitable for doctors, medical students, nurses, nursing students, midwives, ODPs and student ODPs, paramedics and student paramedics, physiotherapists, dentistry professionals and other health and care professionals. It may also be suitable for fire service technicians, police personnel, and prison officers.
Full Description
The e-ILS course combines half a day of e-learning with half a day (4 Hours 15 min) of face-to-face learning.
On the day, the course programme consists of lectures, skill stations and cardiac arrest simulations. Teaching the knowledge and skills to:
- identify the causes and promote the prevention of cardiopulmonary arrest
- recognise and treat the deteriorating patient using the ABCDE approach
- undertake the skills of quality CPR and defibrillation (manual and /or AED) and simple airway manoeuvres
- utilise non-technical skills to facilitate initial leadership and effective team membership
Pre-course Preparation
The manual is sent to candidates two weeks before the start of the course. Candidates are expected to have prepared for the course by reading the manual.
Before the course, you will be registered on the Resuscitation Council (UK) Learning Management System (LMS). Here, you can access pre-course course modules that will prepare you for your face-to-face session, and you may be asked to complete a pre-course multiple choice question (MCQ) paper.
Programme
Candidates are free to complete the e-learning in their own time before the face-to-face session. The face-to-face session focuses on skill stations and cardiac arrest simulations (CASTeach)
Assessment and Certification
Assessment is continuous and is guided by the assessment forms provided for each core skill (e.g. initial resuscitation and assessment, and airway management). Successful candidates receive a Resuscitation Council (UK) ILS provider certificate, which is valid for one year.
This course is recognised as continuing professional development (CPD) by the Medical, Dental, and Nursing Royal Colleges and Health Care Professional Council.
