Program Overview

The Prescribing from the Community Practitioner Formulary Programme (V150) is a 20-credit module designed to prepare students to prescribe safely and competently from the Nurse Prescribers' Formulary for Community Practitioners. Successful completion of this course provides eligibility to apply for annotation against an entry on the NMC register as a nurse or midwife prescriber.

Course Structure

The course will be taught over 6 days using a variety of teaching methods, with sessions taking place 1 day per week via MS Teams. The equivalent of 10 days educationally led practice in the student's own area of work is also required.

Assessment

Assessments are set by the NMC and include:

• Practice Assessment Document assessment (Pass/Fail)
• Numeracy assessment (Pass/Fail, 100% pass mark)
• Pharmacology exam (Pass/Fail, 80% pass mark)
• In-person assessment (graded according to University regulations)

Entry Requirements

The course is available to first-level registered nurses working in both the NHS and independent sector who do not hold a specialist practitioner qualification. All applicants must meet Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards and those working within the NHS must have written support from their Trust. A current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) is required.

Facilities and Staff

The Nursing and Midwifery courses are based at the City South campus, which features state-of-the-art facilities, including a mock operating theatre, wards, and a home environment room. The Centre for Skills and Simulation offers a range of different spaces that replicate situations encountered in practice. The staff includes experienced lecturers, such as Rachel Hogan and Sophie Moran, who have expertise in community nursing and non-medical prescribing.

Course Specifications

The course is designed to comply with the Realising Professionalism: Standards for Education and Training publications by the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Successful completion provides eligibility to apply for annotation against an entry on the NMC register as a nurse or midwife prescriber.

Tuition Fees

• UK Students: £1,040 per 20 credits
• International Students: This course is not available to international students.
