- Independent Scholarship (Built Environment): This module forms an essential part of the programme, enabling students to develop their practice in undertaking research by identifying and applying advanced research methodologies.
- Environmental risk and responsibility: This module covers critical issues facing the industry today, from flood risk engineering management to sustainable development.
- Continuing Professional Development and Strategic Management: This module provides students with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in the civil engineering industry, including project planning, value engineering, and risk management.
- Flood Risk Engineering Management: This module covers the principles of flood risk engineering management, including the design and construction of flood defence systems.
- Project Planning, Value Engineering and Risk Management: This module provides students with the skills and knowledge required to plan and manage projects, including value engineering and risk management.
- Advanced Geotechnical Engineering: This module covers advanced geotechnical engineering topics, including soil mechanics and foundation design.
- Transport and Infrastructure Engineering and Sustainable Design: This module covers the principles of transport and infrastructure engineering, including sustainable design and construction.
- Negotiated Module: This module allows students to negotiate their own learning outcomes and content, enabling them to tailor their studies to their individual needs.
- BIM and Integrated Project Collaboration: This module covers the principles of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and integrated project collaboration.
- Sustainable Construction Methods and Materials: This module covers sustainable construction methods and materials, including green building and sustainable development.
- Geomatic Monitoring and Asset Engineering: This module covers geomatic monitoring and asset engineering, including the use of GPS and GIS in construction.
How You Will Learn
- Pace of study: The academic year is made up of three 10-week terms, known as trimesters. Students are recommended to study 20 hours per week to complete one 20-credit module over a 10-week trimester.
- Study Skills: Students have access to advanced study skill resources, including research skills, critical evaluation, literature search, referencing, and plagiarism.
- Assessment method: Students will undertake formative and summative assessments, including project design work, design briefs, project reviews, portfolios, assignments, case studies, presentations, team-work projects, and examinations.
- Residential: Two optional modules, the Geomatic Monitoring and Asset Engineering module and the Advanced Geotechnical Engineering module, incorporate a short residential held in Derbyshire.
