Engineering Management (Top-Up) BEng (Hons)
Course Description
The Engineering Management (Top-Up) BEng (Hons) course is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to manage engineering projects and teams effectively. The course is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and meets the full requirements to register as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) if students have come onto this programme via a Partial Incorporated Engineer (Partial IEng) accredited HND/Foundation Degree programme previously.
What You Will Study
- Advanced Operations Management: This module encourages learners to gain deeper insights into business and engineering operations and performance at an organisational level.
- Ethics, Environment and Innovation: This module introduces learners to theoretical, methodological and practical approaches and techniques to managing operations and improve business performance.
- Independent Study and Professional Development (IEng): This module provides learners with the opportunity to explore and gain valuable field experience from a number of industrial visits and guest lectures.
- System Simulation and Project Management: This module aims to introduce learners to theoretical, methodological and practical approaches and techniques to managing operations and improve business performance.
- Management for Engineers: This module provides learners with the skills and knowledge required to manage engineering projects and teams effectively.
How You Will Learn
- Real World Learning: The course is delivered through a combination of lectures, tutorial classes, case study discussions, work-related learning activities, research-based learning and computer lab sessions.
- Assessment: Assessment is by a mixture of coursework assignments, examinations and formal presentations.
Careers
Upon completing this course, students will be equipped with the appropriate skills that would enable them to practise as a manager in the engineering sector. Students will have the opportunity to continue their study at University of Derby on the MSc Strategic Engineering Management.
Entry Requirements
- Students need to have an HND or Foundation degree in a relevant subject.
- When applying, please send a transcript of the modules already studied so that the University can ensure the HND or foundation degree is compatible with the top-up programme.
Fees and Funding
- 2025/26:
- UK: Full-time £9,535 per year, Part-time £1,190 per 20 credit module
- International: Full-time £16,900 per year, Part-time N/A
