Course essentials
The joint Biomedical Engineering degree programme has been designed to train the next generation of biomedical engineers working in healthcare research and development. The practice of medicine is being transformed by the increasing role of engineering, physics, mathematics, and computer science. This four-year course will position you at the forefront of these developments and will provide you with an understanding of the most fundamental principles of engineering applied to healthcare and a foundation in mathematics, human anatomy, and physiology.
Base campus
The Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) SUSTech was established in 2011 by the provincial government of Guangdong with the aim of developing a new type of tertiary education and becoming a world-class research university. It is located in the rapidly-growing tech capital city of Shenzhen.

You will be taught through a combination of lectures, tutorials, projects, and practical laboratory work. Face to face teaching will be complemented and supported with innovative technology so that students also experience elements of digital learning and assessment
Location
The programme is taught at the SUSTech campus in Shenzhen, China and is taught in English. Some projects may require students to work off-campus.

You will be assessed through a combination of written examinations, essays, practical examinations, oral presentations, reports, class tests and projects. The nature of assessment varies by module.

Structure
The programme is divided into modules. You will be required to pass all modules to be awarded a degree from both King’s and SUSTech. However, there are some modules that are required by the Chinese educational system which, while they must be passed, will not count towards the award of the Kings degree. There is a requirement to obtain an equivalent level of English to IELTS 6.5 by the end of year 1. The following modules are required for the King’s degree and total 450 credits. There are no optional modules.

Careers
Biomedical engineers can work in various areas including robotics; regenerative medicine; wearable technology; drug delivery mechanisms; and 3-D printing. STEM degrees are also considered useful by employers in a number of sectors including consultancy. Graduates may also choose to progress to a masters or doctoral degree specialising in medical engineering or medical physics, or progress to a medical degree.
