Programme Description

The MSc Physiotherapy (pre-registration) provides a contemporary research-enhanced curriculum with a minimum of 1000 hours of professional practice experience and an accelerated route into the profession. It is an ideal study pathway for graduates with a related first degree wishing to become physiotherapists. The inclusive programme will build on your personal and graduate skills to prepare you for working independently and with others to provide high-quality, person-centered care that aims to optimise health, function, and well-being for individuals and populations.

Entry Requirements

UK Applicants

  • Standard requirements: A minimum 2:1 undergraduate Bachelor's (honours) degree.
  • Programme-Specific Requirements: Minimum 2:1 first degree in biomedical sciences or relevant disciplines such as Psychology and Sports Science. Applicants with degrees in other disciplines will be assessed on their merits.
  • Additional requirements: Evidence of training in statistics, research methods, and/or a dissertation at BSc level. Skills to critically evaluate material and study independently.

International Applicants

  • Equivalent International qualifications: Select a country to view equivalent qualifications.
  • English language requirements: English language band B. Certification of competence in English is required before starting studies.

Selection Process

  • Applications: Must be made online using King's Apply, the Admissions Portal. A non-refundable application fee of £85 applies.
  • Shortlisting: For interviews will take place in early February.
  • Interviews: Expected to take place on 6th, 13th, and 15th March 2024.
  • Personal statement and supporting information: Required documents include a personal statement, previous academic study, references, and optional CV or evidence of professional registration.

Teaching and Structure

  • Teaching methods: Lectures, seminars, workshops, directed self-study.
  • Programme structure: Organised over 2 calendar years, comprising 180 Level 7 credits (totals approximately 1800 hours of student endeavour) plus a minimum of 1000 hours of professional practice clinical placements.
  • Assessment: Exams, coursework, Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), written examinations, coursework (oral and poster presentations, essays, video/podcast, quality improvement project, and written dissertation).

Employability

  • Registration: Eligible to apply for registration to practise as a physiotherapist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Membership: Eligible to apply for full membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).
  • Career opportunities: NHS, social care, public health, sports and leisure, clinical and academic research, and other graduate opportunities.

Fees and Funding

  • Tuition fees: UK: £9,535 per year (2025/26), International: £35,800 per year (2025/26).
  • Deposit: £2000 for international students.
  • Additional costs: Clothing uniform, Disclosure and Barring certificates, equipment, health checks/immunisations/vaccinations, travel and accommodation for clinical placement, course-related conferences.
  • Funding: NHS Learning Support Fund available for eligible students.
