Course essentials
This course examines the complex relationship between language and cultural diversity, and will equip you with:
- An understanding of language use in urban multi-cultural contexts in a globalised world, and of how personal and socio-cultural identities such as gender, age and ethnicity are shaped, both institutionally and at a local level of everyday social interaction
- An ability to critically analyse and evaluate issues of cultural diversity and intercultural communication
- Research skills and knowledge relevant to further study in empirical and applied linguistics

UK applicants
- Standard requirements: A minimum 2:1 undergraduate Bachelor’s (honours) degree
- Programme-Specific Requirements:
- Either: 2:1 Bachelor's in linguistics, applied linguistics, English language, a modern language, or other similar and relevant degree
- Or: Master's degree in linguistics, applied linguistics, English language, a modern language, or other similar and relevant degree
- In order to meet the academic entry requirements for this programme you should have a minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree with a final mark of at least 60% or above in the UK marking scheme
International applicants
