Program Overview
CMR - Theory and Practical Applications for Radiographers
Course Overview
This Cardiac MRI course aims to deliver a solid background of CMR (Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance) as a clinical application in routine clinical practice. It covers basic MRI safety/physics and focuses on the theory and practical skills involved with carrying out a simple CMR procedure as well as the more complex scans such as Perfusion imaging and Aortogram. The course also covers current topics of interest such as mapping and contrast safety, as well as less explored areas such as Congenital imaging. Attendees will benefit from sessions on tips and tricks to help improve their skills. The newly found knowledge and skills from the course can be embedded in their future practice.
Course Features
- The course has been endorsed by the College of Radiographers for the purposes of CPD for Radiographers.
- Attendees can join the course either in person (London) or online (MS Teams). In person attendees will have access to scanner visits in the last session of the day.
Course Content
- Clinical Value of CMR
- MR Safety/CMR Physics
- How to/ ‘Principles of Basic CMR
- Aortogram, Flows
- Perfusion Scanning
- T1/T2 maps and ECV
- Late Gad enhancement
- The ‘difficult patient’ vs the ‘difficult scanner’
- Post Processing
- Setting up a CMR Service
- Device Scanning: Where to Start
- Device scanning: case studies, tips, and tricks
- Congenital scanning and case studies
- 4D Flow
- Tumor Scanning
- Common cardiomyopathies: ARVC;HCM;DCM
- Advance MRI 7T/Free Max
- Post-processing-Complex cases
In person attendees will join a live scanning session
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the value of CMR, the theoretical approach to CMR as well as improve upon their practical skills. We expect attendees to leave with a broader understanding of how to acquire high-quality images, but also being able to highlight pathology with a better understanding of normal vs abnormal cardiac anatomy.
Entry Requirements
Attendance is open to all radiographers, imaging assistants and clinical fellows with an interest in the theoretical and practical aspect of Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
