Course Overview
Combine theory and practice to tackle urgent environmental and sustainability issues. This course aims to prepare you for leadership roles in environmental policy, resource management, and sustainable development across industries and governmental organisations.
What You'll Study

Modules
- Environmental Management Systems, Auditing and Communication – 30 credits
- Explore how organisations implement Environmental Management Systems (EMS) like ISO 14001 and the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme to enhance performance, ensure legal compliance, and meet sustainability goals.
- Environmental Governance, Ethics and Policy – 30 credits
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of environmental governance, ethics, and policy.
- Sustainable Resource Management and Life Cycle Thinking – 30 credits
- Investigate sustainable resource management principles within a circular economy, focusing on life cycle thinking and techniques like life cycle assessment (LCA).
- Spheres of the Environment and Climate Change Adaption – 30 credits
- This module covers the spheres (atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere, biosphere, and anthroposphere) and the complex interactions between them.
- Master’s with Professional Placement
- If you successfully secure a placement in industry within your first semester, this master’s with professional placement option allows you to extend your 12-month master’s course up to an additional year to complete the placement before starting your final 60-credit module.
- Research Project – 60 credits
- Develop your research skills by planning, designing, and conducting an independent project in areas like engineering, construction, sustainability, or energy with guidance from an academic supervisor.

Teaching Contact Hours
As a full-time postgraduate student, you will study modules totalling 180 credits each academic year. A typical 30-credit module requires a total of 300 hours of study.

Entry Requirements
- UK: An honours degree 2:2 or above (or international equivalent) in a geography, geology, biology, ecology, chemistry, or environmental science discipline.
- International: An honours degree 2:2 or above (or international equivalent) in a geography, geology, biology, ecology, chemistry, or environmental science discipline.
English Language Requirements
This course requires IELTS of 6.5 overall, with no component lower than 5.5

- EU: £11,200 per year with EU Support Bursary
