About Program
Program Overview
Civil Engineering Project Management MSc
Course overview
Enhance your career opportunities in civil and infrastructural engineering by expanding your skills and knowledge around structural design, management of construction projects, geotechnics and more.
What you'll study
Modules
- Structural and Infrastructure Design - 30 credits
- The module is designed to develop your knowledge and understanding of the analysis, design and maintenance of motorway bridges to UK standards. You should develop and demonstrate expertise in applying experimental, theoretical and computational methods to steel connections and composite structural members in accordance with the provisions of the Eurocodes. You will also be introduced to the theory of structural robustness and the stability of buildings.
- Geotechnics and Materials - 30 credits
- Enhance your technical skills in solving soil-structure interaction problems to develop strong analytical and decision-making abilities. Learn about sustainable materials and emerging technologies like AI, BIM and 3D concrete printing, and apply life cycle and carbon assessments to infrastructure. The module uses advanced software and lab equipment to support theory, creating an engaging learning environment.
- Strategic Management and Stakeholder Integration - 30 credits
- Enhance your project management expertise within the fast-paced and evolving construction sector. This module provides an in-depth exploration of project processes, combining critical thinking with practical application. Content covers key areas such as scope, time, cost, quality, risk management and soft systems methodology.
- Construction Law and Contract Practice Procedures - 30 credits
- Work towards a holistic understanding of contract practice and law and apply critical thinking regarding contract formation, award and contract administration. Gain the essential skills to manage the main standard forms used in practice. Explore practical aspects through a variety of methods, including problem-based learning and role-playing simulations.
- Master’s with professional placement
- If you successfully secure a placement in industry within your first semester, this master’s with professional placement option allows you to extend your 12-month master’s course up to an additional year to complete the placement before starting your final 60-credit module.
- Research Project - 60 credits
- Develop your research skills by planning, designing and conducting an independent project in areas like engineering, construction, sustainability or energy, with guidance from an academic supervisor.
