About us

At Coventry University, we continuously review the courses we offer to ensure we reflect industry-relevant emerging best practice and technology. As a result, this course is undergoing continuous improvement assessment and will be launched with a renewed curriculum starting in September 2025. Module content and titles will be updated. Course title, learning outcomes and assessments may also change. We expect our new curriculum to be fully updated in June 2025. Please return to this page to see the final course details.

Course overview

Developed in collaboration with industry, our 100% online Construction Management with BIM MSc is industry-focused and designed for architects, engineers, surveyors, construction managers, facilities managers, legal practitioners, or anyone seeking a career in construction management.

  • The course is continually updated each year to ensure it stays current with the latest industry innovations and technologies with the latest additions including Building Information Modelling, cloud-based project sharing within Common Data Environments, digital clash detection on virtual BIM models, energy analysis simulations and information workflows in a digitised industry.
  • By studying theory/management practices and examining real-life case studies, you will be taught how to manage complex construction projects from the initial planning stages, analysing corporate problems and presenting appropriate solutions from implementation and completion, managing project teams, procurement, finance, risk and health and safety.
  • The course examines how the built and natural environments interact, ever conscious of the need for sustainable construction, together with the environmental principles and legislation applied to the construction industry.
  • You will be encouraged to engage in topical discussions about a wide range of issues, from sustainability demands in construction to environmental and economic considerations in shaping construction trends.

Why you should study this course

This course will allow you to develop the specialist skills and expertise needed to contend with increasingly complex construction projects, as public and private investment in the build environment continues to grow. This course will also enable you to take into account complicated regulations, technological advancements and environmental concerns.

  • Coventry University currently has excellent links with potential employers, many of which, like Warwickshire City Council, provide direct input into current course development as members of our Building Advisory Board.
  • We currently have a strong portfolio of modern, industry-related research and expertise (staff subject to change) in engineering, construction and sustainable development, ranging from project management to supply chain management.
  • Incorporating innovative digital software into construction education courses revolutionises the learning experience by enhancing engagement, collaboration, and practical skills. Tools such as Building Information Modelling (BIM), augmented reality (AR) and simulation software enable students to visualise complex projects, simulate real-world scenarios, and collaborate seamlessly with peers and professionals. These technologies not only bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application but also prepare students for the evolving demands of the construction industry. By integrating cutting-edge digital tools, educational institutions can cultivate a new generation of construction professionals equipped with the skills and knowledge to lead in a digital-first world.
  • On successful completion, you can look to develop and progress careers in the industry as Construction Managers, BIM Coordinators, BIM Managers, BIM Technicians, Construction digital and innovation leads, Site Managers and Asset/Facility Managers.

How do you know if you need to pay UK or international tuition fees?

We carry out an initial fee status assessment based on the information you provide in your application. Your fee status determines your tuition fees, and what financial support and scholarships may be available to you. The rules about who pays UK (home) or international (overseas) fees for higher education courses in England are set by the Department for Education. The regulations identify all the different categories of student who can insist on paying the home rate. The regulations can be difficult to understand, so the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) has provided fee status guidance to help you identify whether you are eligible to pay the home or overseas rate.

If you meet all the criteria required by any one category, including any residence requirements, your institution must charge you the home rate. You only need to find one category that you fit into.
