Overview
The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) undergraduate certificate at Wichita State allows students to explore this robust and rapidly growing technology. GIS technology has wide-ranging applications in various fields, including history, geology, journalism, epidemiology, criminal justice, real estate, public and private utilities, and rural land management. The certificate is a useful addition to many majors and is great preparation for graduate school.
Curriculum
The undergraduate certificate is open to all WSU undergraduate students. To earn the certificate, students must complete 12 credits of coursework in areas such as:
- Spatial analysis
- Mapping
- Programming languages
- Database management
- Field map methods
- Remote sensing
Enrollment
To add this certificate to a plan of study, students must:
- Log into the myWSU portal
- Find the Student Tools box (center of the page) and click "Change my Major/Minor"
- Click continue (this will show the current major and minor)
- Click continue, then click on "Add a certificate" and choose the certificate program
- Click continue and submit the request
