Entrance Requirements
This pathway is intended for applicants who do not already have a first degree. We require some work-based experience in dementia care.
English Language Requirements
- IELTS Academic or UKVI 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each sub-skill.
- Pearson Test of English (Academic) 60 overall with a minimum of 59 in each sub-skill.
- IBT TOEFL 78 overall with a minimum of 17 in listening, 18 in reading, 20 in speaking and 17 in writing.
Objectives
- To examine and explore different theories and perspectives on dementia, ageing, place and space
- To examine the evidence base on dementia and the environment and its implications for policy and practice
- To critically reflect on your own practice in light of the knowledge and insights gained through this module
- To gain direct experience in environmental auditing and other place-based skills to enhance dementia practice

Delivery and Assessment
This online course is organised around participation in three discussion boards, supported by a module workbook and recommended reading each week. There is a final summative assignment that carries 100% of the grade for the module.

On completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate an awareness of the evidence base concerning dementia and the environment and of the emerging themes and debates within this field.
- Acquire and apply knowledge of the different theories and paradigms that shape an understanding of dementia and the environment.
- Apply knowledge of specific environmental and technological approaches and interventions in the field of dementia care and be able to demonstrate their significance to their own practice.
