Overview
The sport coaching environment can be complex and dynamic, with coaches under pressure to bring innovation into their practice. This can lead to a reliance on what may have previously worked rather than considering what the most important problem to be solved is.
Objectives
- Identify and justify a problem to be solved in your coaching context;
- Devise and defend, with reference to appropriate theories/concepts and literature, your approach to solving a particular coaching problem;
- Appraise methods of evidence analysis to enhance coaching practice;
- Engage with critical thinking and problem solving discussions.
Structure and Content
This module focuses on rigorous and objective methods to identify and solve problems faced by coaches. It will include:
- The philosophical basis of making sense of evidence
- Professional judgement and decision-making
- Problem solving using qualitative, quantitative and mixed-methods
- Search strategies to explore current knowledge and gather evidence.
- Solving problems using behaviour-change and implementation science.
