Program Overview


Fundamentals in BIM ISO19650 (Micro-credential L8, 5 ECTS)

Course Overview

ISO 19650 is the core standard for the implementation of Building Information Modelling in the design and operation of built assets. The Office of Government Procurement has mandated the use of BIM from January 2024 for large projects and will include all public sector procurement projects within the next 4 years. This program will provide learners with a detailed understanding of the ISO standard. Through teaching underpinned by practical examples and implementations, this course will deliver industry-ready BIM professionals ready to take advantage of the insights and gains achievable through BIM-enabled projects.


Entry Requirements

  • An honours degree (level 8) in a cognate (e.g. Engineering, Architecture, Building Services, Construction Management etc.) discipline or approved equivalent qualification
  • A level 7 qualification in a cognate discipline (e.g. Engineering, Architecture, Building Services, Construction Management etc.,) or approved equivalent qualification, with 1-year relevant work experience

Prospective participants who do not meet the entry requirements for the programme detailed above, but who may qualify for admission by meeting certain other equivalent criteria, including workplace experience, should apply using the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) procedure for consideration.

HCI Pillar 3 Funding

Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria for the HCI Pillar 3 funding, as set out by the HEA. We would encourage you to read the criteria prior to making an application, to ensure you are eligible to apply.


English Language

Applicants who do not have English as their first language must ensure they satisfy English Language requirements. For entry to undergraduate courses, a score of 5.5 in an IELTS or equivalent exam is required. For postgraduate courses, a score of 6.0 in an IELTS or equivalent exam is required.

  • ISO19650 Part 3: Organisational Information Requirements (OIR), Asset Information Requirements (AIR), Project Information Requirements (PIR), Exchange Information Requirements (EIR)
  • ISO19650 Part 3: Pre-construction activities – Asset Information Standard, Production Methods and Procedures, Shared Information and Resources, Establish CDE, Links to ERP, Management of Asset Information
  • ISO19650 Part 2: Responsibilities of Lead Appointed Party, BIM Execution Plans (BEP), Information Manager, Delivery Team Capability and Capacity, Mobilisation
  • ISO19650 Part 2: Responsibility Matrix, Appointed Parties, Information Exchange, Task Information Delivery Plan, Master information Delivery Plan
  • ISO19650 Part 2: Mobilisation, Information Quality Assurance

Time Commitment

  • Each 5 credits will normally equate to approximately 100 Total Learning Hours. Total Learning Hours includes the time you spend in class (lectures, tutorials, practical elements) and the time you spend completing work outside of college.

Assessment

  • This module is fully assessed through coursework assessments
  • Two practical assignments are required. Assessments are designed with tiered activities of varying difficulty. These are individual assessments, however peer collaboration is actively encouraged.
