Program Overview


Performance Assessment Methods (Micro-Credential, L8, 5 ECTS)

Course Overview

The aim of the Performance Assessment Methods programme is to up-skill building professionals to develop knowledge and skills that allow them to monitor, analyse, and provide realistic in-situ information on energy and hygrothermal performance of materials to inform the renovation criteria and strategy to enable high quality, energy-efficient buildings.


Entry Requirements

  • An honours degree (level 8) in a cognate (e.g. Engineering, Architecture, Building Services, Construction Management etc.) discipline or approved equivalent qualification
  • A level 7 qualification in a cognate discipline (e.g. Engineering, Architecture, Building Services, Construction Management etc.,) or approved equivalent qualification, with 1-year relevant work experience.
  • Recognised Prior Learning (RPL)

HCI Pillar 3 Funding

Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria for the HCI Pillar 3 funding, as set out by the HEA.


English Language

Applicants who do not have English as their first language must ensure they satisfy English Language requirements. For entry to undergraduate courses, a score of 5.5 in an IELTS or equivalent exam is required. For postgraduate courses, a score of 6.0 in an IELTS or equivalent exam is required.


Course Content

Topics

  • Assess the regulatory standards and certification process for materials and building elements
  • Use of monitoring and assessment tools and equipment
  • Application and monitoring in-situ energy performance and DEAP/NEAP tools
  • Application and appraisal of hygrothermal testing processes such as wufi
  • Evaluate and report on the energy performance and hygrothermal requirements for buildings

Delivery

  • Delivered over 1 semester in a blended learning format.
  • One evening online lecture – 3 hours forth-nightly (Tuesdays, 6:30pm to 9:30pm) commencing Tuesday 16th September 2025.
  • Full day face to face practical workshops and site visits on Fridays or Saturdays (TBC).

Time Commitment

  • Each 5 credits will normally equate to approximately 100 Total Learning Hours. Total Learning Hours includes the time you spend in class (lectures, tutorials, practical elements) and the time you spend completing work outside of college.

Assessment

  • Assessment will be through a range of continuous assessments, which will involve:
    • Case studies
    • Online Quizzes
    • Project reports

  • Micro-Credential in Performance Assessment Methods (Certificate of Completion, L8, 5 ECTS)

  • HCI Pillar 3 funded – Student pays €125

  • Wednesday 3rd September 2025.
  • Places are allocated on a first come first served basis, prioritizing unemployed and returning applicants.
  • Course will be closed once the maximum number of applicants is reached.
