Course Overview
The aim of the BSc in Quality and Lean Management is to give learners an opportunity to acquire an integrated understanding of the operation and strategy of Quality and Lean Management and to develop transferable and transversal skills. The programme is designed to offer the learner an opportunity to gain a detailed knowledge of the theories and effective practice of Quality and Lean management and Validation which the learner can use in a wide variety of quality and lean management roles to improve organisational and business efficiencies and effectiveness.

Module Descriptions
Environmental Sustainable Governance (ESG)
This module familiarises the learner with the principles of sustainability from a global, national, and local viewpoint. It equips learners with key tools to integrate sustainability aims into management through sustainable methods such as the circular economy, recognising people as a primary asset of any organisation, and implementing Lean Enterprise Transformations.
Data Analysis
This module provides students with an understanding of a range of statistical tools through theoretical study and practical application using a widely used industry software package.
Organisational Behaviour and Change Management
This module focuses on key issues in managing effective change, exploring organisational behaviour and change management theories, principles, and case studies.
Applied Practice 3 – Applied Human Resource Management
The purpose of this module is to help students develop a critical understanding of Human Resource Management (HRM) in modern society and across industrial, commercial, and service organisations. It examines the changing nature of work, employment relationships, and the contribution of HRM practices to organisational effectiveness.
Statistical Process Control
This module covers the fundamental theory behind Statistical Process Control (SPC), a method used to monitor and control process quality through statistical analysis. Students will learn to construct and interpret control charts for variables and attributes, undertake capability analysis, and understand the relationship between capability analysis and process stability.
Good Manufacturing Practice
This module introduces students to the concept of GxP, with a focus on GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice), GDP (Good Distribution Practice), GCP (Good Clinical Practice), and GLP (Good Laboratory Practice). It explores the evolution of GMP from basic product testing to tightly controlled manufacturing environments, providing insights into global quality control in medicine production for both traditional small-molecule drugs and modern biotherapeutics. The module also covers pre-clinical testing, clinical trials, and the relationship between GxP and Quality Assurance within a Total Quality Management framework.
Entry Requirements
Students must have completed the Higher Certificate in Operations, Quality and Lean Management (Level 6) or equivalent or Recognition of Prior Learning (APL/APEL).

Funding Opportunities
This programme is funded under the Part Time Fee Scheme (SUSI) for Selected Undergraduate Programmes. Students will be required to pay a deposit of €250 on registration, which will be returned to the student on approval of SUSI funding.
