Our Medical Microbiology Programmes are online degrees aimed at health sector employees looking to develop or enhance your skills as a microbiologist. The programmes are designed to provide an advanced understanding of microorganisms that cause disease in humans, their diagnosis and management and is taught by a wide range of academics and eminent health sector employees. Students can choose from an extensive variety of modules enabling them to tailor the programme to suit their areas of interest and career aspirations.


Course Structure

You can study our modules individually for your continuing professional development (CPD) or follow a specific pathway to pursue a postgraduate award (PGCert / PGDip / MSc) in Medical Microbiology. Our intensive 12-week taught modules provide health sector employees the tools to enhance their microbiology skills and understanding. To complete the master's degree (MSc), you will also conduct a medical microbiology-focused workplace project.

Entry Requirements

UK Citizens and Permanent Residents

  • An undergraduate (honours) degree at 2:2, or above, in a relevant subject.
  • Applicants without a degree that have professional clinical qualifications or relevant professional experience in healthcare/the NHS may be considered.
  • Applicants are also expected to be registered practitioners.

What You Will Study

  • Complete two 12-week modules to gain a PGCert in Medical Microbiology.
  • Complete four 12-week modules to gain a PGDip in Medical Microbiology.
  • Complete four modules and a research project to gain an MSc in Medical Microbiology.
