Assured Pathways

If you’re interested in this area of study, gain an advantage by choosing to complete an Assured Pathway which sees you combine your first degree with your second.

Why Study This Major

  • Gain a strong foundation in the disciplines of biomedical science, clinical knowledge, clinical skills and professional behaviour
  • Prepare for continued study in the Doctor of Dental Medicine through an Assured Pathway (if successful in completing this extended major, students will be eligible for credit towards the Doctor of Dental Medicine and a shorter six-year pathway)
  • Experienced and expert teachers delivering an innovative curriculum

Practical Learning

Students will undertake simulation work in the Dental School's Simulation and Operative Technique Laboratories. This involves the learning and practicing of dental procedures on various models of teeth and mouths with some exercises being performed in “phantom heads” on dental simulators. This pre-clinical training is essential to develop the student's hand skills and to become competent in the various dental procedures before progressing to the clinical years of the Doctor of Dental Medicine course where they will be treating patients in the clinics of the Oral Health Centre of WA and at various external placement clinics. The experiential learning is an essential part of the training of dentists.
