Admission Requirements

  • Admission Requirements: To be considered for admission, an applicant must have:
    • A Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA
    • The equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 50 per cent
    • At least two years professional experience in a relevant occupation
    • Completed a Graduate Certificate in Finance or Graduate Certificate in Commerce at UWA
  • English Competency: Minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0

  • Conversion: Students who have not completed the Bachelor of Commerce, or equivalent, may be required to complete relevant conversion units up to the value of 24 points.

Hands-on Experience

  • Engage in a trading simulation where you buy and sell financial instruments such as stocks, bonds, commodities, and currencies.
  • Analyse the fundamentals of a firm using our extensive databases (including Bloomberg and Reuters Eikon) to form an investment decision and create a report similar to those produced by equity analysts.
  • Price complex fixed income securities and derivatives using quantitative models, and investigate deviations from real-world prices (using Bloomberg and Reuters Eikon).
  • Prepare for CFA Program Exams – UWA is part of the CFA University affiliation program and the MAF covers 70%+ of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge.

Graduate Outcomes

  • Graduates of a Master of Applied Finance will:
    • Have advanced theoretical and technical finance knowledge and skills to solve emerging and/or advanced finance problems.
    • Be able to demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills to complex problems/issues in finance, and communicate clearly and effectively in relation to complex problems/issues in finance to specialists and non-specialists.
