About the course

The Master of Professional Accounting (Chartered Accounting) is a postgraduate accounting qualification that allows students to complete both the Master of Professional Accounting and the prestigious Chartered Accountants (CA) program at the same time. This unique course is delivered in partnership between UWA and Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand (CA ANZ) and is ideal for those who wish to quickly transition to a professional accounting career and those seeking a distinctive, advanced postgraduate accounting qualification.

Course Structure

The Master of Professional Accounting (Chartered Accounting) is completed in three stages:


Stage 1: Conversion Units

  • Students complete four conversion units to prepare them for study in this course. Depending on prior learning, students may be eligible for an exemption to one or more of these units.

Stage 2: Core Units

  • Students complete nine core units addressing taxation, corporate law, finance, accounting information systems, auditing, financial accounting, and management accounting.

Stage 3: Chartered Accounting Units

  • Students complete six Chartered Accounting units delivered in partnership between UWA and Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand (CA ANZ). To gain admission to Stage 3, students must have a weighted average mark of at least 65% across stages 1 and 2.

Admission Requirements

  • To be considered for admission to this course, an applicant must have:
    • A Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA; and
    • Either:
      • The equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 50 per cent; or
      • At least two years professional experience in a relevant occupation; or
    • Completed a Graduate Certificate in Commerce at UWA.

Admission Requirements Update for 2026 Intake

  • For 2026 intake, to be considered for admission to this course, an applicant must have the equivalent of a UWA Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of at least 65 per cent; and any additional requirements as summarised in the Admission Requirements above.

English Competency

  • English is the language of instruction and assessment at UWA, and students will need to meet the English language requirements of the University to be eligible for a place.
  • Minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0.

Fees and Scholarships

  • Domestic Student Fees:
    • Annual course fee: $35,400.00 (2025)
    • For Full-Fee Paying places, students are charged an annual course fee, charged per credit point at a rate dependent on the course in which the student is enrolled.
  • International Student Fees:
    • Annual course fee: $50,900.20 (2025)
    • Onshore international students are charged an annual course fee, charged per credit point at a rate dependent on the course in which the student is enrolled.
  • Scholarships:
    • Scholarships are available to students from a diverse range of backgrounds, including academic achievement, financial need, educational disadvantage, leadership and community service, artistic or sporting achievements, and being from a rural or remote area.

  • Chartered accountants are employed in professional accounting firms, large and small for-profit entities as well as not-for-profit and government organisations.
  • Major employers include firms such as Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PricewaterhouseCoopers, major corporates like Wesfarmers and Woodside, small businesses, public sector, local government.

Professional Accreditation

  • This course satisfies the accreditation requirements of the following professional accounting associations: Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) and CPA Australia.
  • Graduates are eligible to join as a Chartered Accountant subject to completing three years Mentored Practical Experience.
  • Graduates are eligible to join as Associate members of CPA Australia.
