Introduction to Engineering Design, Communication, and Profession - ENGG 1600

Course Description

This course introduces Engineering students to fundamental design processes and theory in a multidisciplinary context. The course emphasizes Engineering design principles related to communications, teamwork, Engineering disciplines and careers, and professional responsibilities including: ethics, equity, sustainability, environmental stewardship, collaboration consultation with Indigenous communities, public and worker safety, and health considerations (including consideration of the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act).

Course Objectives

This course introduces engineering students to fundamental design processes and theory in a multidisciplinary context. Topics include communications in engineering design, team work, engineering disciplines and career fields, and the professional responsibilities of the engineer. The course will also discuss important issues in engineering, including: ethics, equity, sustainable development, environmental stewardship, collaborative consultation with Indigenous communities, public and worker safety, and health considerations, particularly within the context of the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act.
