Professional Diploma in Business Management

Overview

The Professional Diploma in Business Management is a part-time evening course that develops the appropriate skills and knowledge essential for effective management within a business environment. This course is suited to the aspiring or newly appointed manager, the team leader, the self-employed, and those interested in enhancing personal performance.


Course Details

Modules

  • Business Management: This module assesses the roles and skills of managers at various levels of the business hierarchy, examines the core management functions needed to manage a business, and applies the tools and techniques of management.
  • Introduction to Management Accounting: This module describes and discusses the role of the management accountant and their contribution to the achievement of changing organisational objectives, identifies and explains cost and revenue classifications and cost behavior patterns, and applies budgeting techniques.
  • Technologies for Business: This module discusses the role that information technology and information systems play in the business world, applies IT concepts relevant to business, and differentiates information system types.
  • Business Law and Ethics: This module discusses the importance of law to the operation of business in Ireland, describes the essential aspects of the law of contract, negligence, and employment law, and explains the role of ethics in business.

Timetables

  • Dublin Main Campus: This course will commence September 2025 and will run one evening per week from 6.00 pm - 9.30 pm over 24 weeks.
  • Online Delivery: This course will next commence on Thursday, 6th February 2025, and will run one evening per week (Thursday) from 6.00 pm - 9.30 pm over 24 weeks.
  • Dublin City Centre: The next intake of this course will be on Tuesday 17 September 2024, and will run one evening per week from 18.30 - 21.30 over two 12-week semesters.
  • Cork Campus: This course will next commence on Wednesday, 25th September 2024, and will run one evening per week (Wednesday) from 6.30 pm - 9.45 pm over 24 weeks.

How to Apply

  • Entry Requirements: All applicants must be a user of Microsoft Office. If English is not your native language, you must show that your English level is suitable.
  • Applicants under 23 years of age: Minimum of 2 H5 and 4 O6/H7 grades, to include Maths and a language (English, Irish or another language) in the Irish Leaving Certificate or equivalent award.
  • Applicants over 23 years of age (Mature students): Direct Entry - If you are 23 years or over from the 1st of January of this year, you can apply for this course directly using the College’s online application form.

Progression

  • What further study can I do?: Graduates from this programme may develop their skills further by completing a BA (Hons) in Business Degree or a BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance Degree at Griffith College and will be considered for exemptions.
  • What career paths could I have?: Graduates of the Professional Diploma in Business Management will be well-positioned to progress in the workplace.
