  • Learn how to operate DSLR (Digital Single-Lens Reflex) cameras proficiently, including manual mode and exposure settings, and use additional equipment to achieve desired results.
  • The course covers how different lighting conditions affect photography, and the application of photographic techniques in visual media.
  • Understand how to capture images, select optimal file sizes, and develop skills in moving image production, including camera operation and basic editing.
  • Creativity, composition, and visual storytelling are demonstrated while also covering branding, visual identity, and copyright in media production.

This course is scheduled to commence 28th October 2025 at Griffith College Dublin's Main Campus. This part-time evening course will run one Tuesday evening per week from 6 pm to 9.30 pm over 10 weeks and 3 Saturdays* from 10 am to 1 pm; see the course dates outlined below.

How to Apply

Entry Requirements

  • Mature Students (Over 23 Years)
    Direct entry
  • Under 23 Years
    5 O6/H7 grades in the Irish Leaving Certificate or equivalent award.
  • English Language
    It is recommended that applicants have a good understanding of both written and spoken English.
  • Photography Equipment
    Learners must acquire the following:
    • DSLR or mirrorless camera with full manual controls
    • The camera’s manual
    • Fully charged battery
    • An empty memory card
    • External hard drive (recommended)
    • Lightweight tripod (for some classes, if owned, not essential)
    • External flash (for some classes, if owned)
    • Adobe Software for use off-campus - Available at student rate (approx. €20 per month)
