The Certificate of Graduate Study in Semiconductor Metrology is a part-time program designed to provide professionals in the semiconductor industry with advanced knowledge and skills in semiconductor metrology. Program of Study
The program consists of 9 or 10 credits, including the following required courses:
- Semiconductor Metrology
- Any two of the following courses:
- Introductory Transmission Electron Microscopy
- Optical Processes in Nanoscale Solids
- Electron Beam Analysis of Nanostructures
- Transmission Electron Microscopy (includes laboratory)
- X-ray Scattering and Crystallography for Nanoscale Materials and Structures
- Advanced Data Analytics Methods

Student Learning Objectives
- Students will have an in-depth understanding of the principles of semiconductor metrology and the classes of measurements made during high-volume manufacturing of semiconductors.
- Students will develop a working knowledge of the major semiconductor metrology methods used and the challenges presented by sub-nanometer precision requirements.
- Students will acquire an in-depth understanding of one or more metrology methods.
International Students
This degree is designated as a STEM program, and international students maintaining F-1 status are allowed to apply for up to 12 months of post-completion Optional Practical Training (OPT) following completion/graduation from their degree program. Currently, this degree program is also designated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as an eligible degree for the F-1 STEM OPT work authorization extension; students who secure qualifying employment may be eligible to apply for the STEM OPT extension for a cumulative total of up to 36 months of F-1 OPT work authorization.
