Overview

The BSc (Hons) Forensic Sciences (Progression Route) provides the opportunity for you to continue your studies to Level 6, providing in-depth knowledge of forensic science skills and practices and further develop transferable scientific skills.

This exciting and dynamic programme provides you with the opportunities to further develop your existing knowledge of forensic science skills and practices, through the practical application of advanced knowledge and skills, acquiring the attributes required by employers in forensic laboratories and scientific support services. You will study a range of exciting and contemporary modules which will develop your forensic science-specific skills, attributes and competencies.

Whist this is a full-time course, typically this course generally only requires one-two days on campus attendance, supported by self-directed study. This means you can continue to work alongside your studies and balance other commitments.

Course Modules

Year 1

• Advanced Topics in Forensic Science (Mandatory) This module will provide you will the skills and knowledge to gather forensic evidence in a reliable professional manner. You will develop and apply critical analytical skills, and deliver gathered evidence demonstrating an advanced understanding of legal and scientific processes.
• Identification & Investigation (Mandatory) This module will provide you a theoretical and practical insight into the roles, responsibilities and disciplines of those who influence the investigation of terrorism, homicide and disasters, you will explore the principles and applications of the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) process and the role of Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) in facilitating the identification of disaster victims and management of mass fatalities.
• Digital Forensics (Mandatory) Understanding the techniques and methodologies for digital evidence collection and analysis is crucial for criminal investigations and legal proceedings in the modern era where digital devices play such a key role in peoples personal and professional lives. This module intends to provide you with theoretical knowledge and the practical skills for investigating and analysing digital devices and digital evidence.
• Environmental & Wildlife Forensics (Mandatory) This module will provide teaching and learning resources for you to develop an awareness and understanding of environmental and wildlife forensics and be able to apply the key theoretical and practical aspects. You will gain knowledge on how environmental and wildlife crime investigators use forensic science to assist them in legal investigations and help to enforce regulation to protect the environment and wildlife in the UK.
• Project (Sciences) (Mandatory) The project provides the opportunity to develop an area of personal scientific interest arising from individual or course-based experiences. The project will be a research-focused study, which will centre on the generation and testing of a hypothesis. It will enable you to utilise practical, intellectual and decision-making skills in new and different situations.

Entry Requirements

UK Academic Requirements

• FdA/FdSc or Higher National Diploma in Forensic Science based subject
• All applicants are required to hold GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above (or Level 2 equivalents)

International Requirements

• IELTS 6.0 overall and a minimum 5.5 in all components, where English is not the students' first language
• Applicants whose first language is not English, but who have been living in the UK for 2 years or more will be expected to hold GCSE English at Grade C or above, (grade 4-9 for the new GCSEs) or the relevant Level 2 equivalent (if applicable)

Transferring Credit

• If you have previously studied at higher education level before you may be able to transfer credits to a related course at the University of Suffolk and reduce the period of study time necessary to achieve your degree

• UK Full-time Tuition Fee: £9,535 per year
• UK Part-time Tuition Fee: £1,589 per 20 credit module
• International Full-time Tuition Fee: £15,690 per year
