Program Overview

MSc/PgD Professional Practice: Advanced Radiography Practice (Progression Route)

Overview

This course will encourage you to critically reflect and review your personal and professional development in order to underpin your clinical performance and expertise. You will be provided with learning opportunities which will allow you to explore complex and current challenges, critique evidence-based practice, evaluate and enhance service delivery. In undertaking this course, you will gain the contemporary knowledge, academic preparedness and skills for an advanced professional practice role.

This course is suitable for all diagnostic radiographers wishing to progress onto advanced professional practice roles.

Course Structure

This course is designed as a progression route for radiographers holding a post graduate certificate (PgC) in a specialist area of practice who wish to progress to completing a masters degree.

Course Modules

  • Research Methods: This module will enhance students’ overall understanding and application of research methodologies and methods that are used to investigate the behavioural, social and biomedical sciences relevant to health, social care and education. Students will develop their theoretical, methodological and research skills to enhance their ability to conduct rigorous research and reach sound analytical conclusions which will form the basis for the development of effective service delivery in health and social care organisations.
  • Leading Integrated Service Innovation: Students will be encouraged to undertake a service evaluation, potentially to identify and explore current challenges. As a result of their evaluation, they will be encouraged to make some recommendation for change to future practice. It is expected that this will be a bespoke piece of work, undertaken in their own field of practice.
  • Dissertation: The dissertation will allow students to demonstrate a critical and constructive awareness of their professional practice from the wider philosophical, theoretical and social contexts within which health and social care operate. Students will identify a problem or opportunity in practice and choose an appropriate methodology to facilitate the exploration of the problem. This can include primary research, service evaluation, clinical audit or a systematic literature review.

Entry Requirements

  • UK Academic Requirements: Holder of a PgC in a specialist area of Diagnostic Radiography.
  • Non-academic Requirements: Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Currently working in the field of diagnostic radiography for a minimum of one year.
  • Transferring Credit: If you have previously studied at higher education level before you may be able to transfer credits to a related course at the University of Suffolk and reduce the period of study time necessary to achieve your degree.
