Stevens Institute of Technology’s Department of Mechanical Engineering is uniquely equipped to launch its new Ph.D. program in Robotics, backed by a strong, interdisciplinary faculty cluster.


With expertise spanning mobile robotics, autonomous navigation, wearable and soft robotics, human-robot interaction, manipulation, safe autonomy, and computer vision, the program is led by faculty from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and the Department of Computer Science.


This collaborative environment offers Ph.D. students exceptional mentorship and research opportunities at the forefront of robotics innovation.


Program Director

Damiano Zanotto

Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering Damiano Zanotto leads the Wearable Robotic Systems Lab and researches wearable robotics and biomechatronics. His work is supported by NSF, NIH, DOD, and other funders, and he teaches robotics and controls across degree levels.

Brendan Englot

Brendan Englot, Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, specializes in terrestrial and underwater mobile robots and autonomous navigation. He leads Stevens’ Robust Field Autonomy Lab, with research funded by NSF, DOD, IARPA, USDA, and industry, and teaches robotics at undergraduate and graduate levels.


Enrique Dunn

Associate Professor Enrique Dunn, a faculty member in the Department of Computer Science, specializes in computer vision. His research at Stevens is supported by the NSF and other funding sources, and he teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in the field.


Yi Guo

A professor of electrical and computer engineering, Yi Guo specializes in autonomous robotics and human-robot interaction. She directs Stevens’ Robotics and Automation Lab, with research funded by NSF, DOD, the U.S. Army and industry, and teaches courses in controls and mobile robots.


Jacqueline Libby

Dr. Libby is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering specializing in medical and soft robotics, human-robot interaction, and machine learning. She leads the Robotic Systems for Health Lab and teaches graduate courses in robotics.


Philippos Mordohai

As a Professor in the Department of Computer Science, Dr. Mordohai researches computer vision with support from NSF, DOE, NIH, and industry. He teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in the field.


Mishah Salman

A teaching professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Salman brings expertise in robotics, mechatronics, and control systems to the classroom, instructing students at both graduate and undergraduate levels.


Hamid Jafarnejad Sani

Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering Dr. Jafarnejad Sani focuses on control theory, UAVs, and cyber-physical security. He leads the Safe Autonomous Systems Lab, with research supported by NSF and IARPA, and teaches systems and controls courses.


Long Wang

Dr. Wang, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering, works on robotic manipulation, continuum robots, and surgical systems. He directs the Advanced Robot Manipulators Lab and teaches graduate robotics and controls courses.
