PhD Military History by Published Works

Course Overview

The PhD in Military History by Published Works is a research degree that allows candidates to submit published scholarly work for consideration. The program is designed for University of Buckingham graduates or members of staff who have made significant contributions to the field of Military History.


Study Period

Registration for the program is for a period of one year (full-time) or two years (part-time). During this time, candidates will have regular supervisions with their Supervisor and be guided in accordance with the same process and provision as if registered for a PhD by research program.


Supervision

Candidates will have regular supervisions with their Supervisor, who will be a member of the academic staff with expertise in Military History. The Supervisor will provide guidance and support throughout the program.


Entry Requirements

The degree of PhD by Published Work may be conferred on:


  • Graduates of the University of Buckingham of not less than five years standing
  • Graduates of another university of not less than five years standing who have also held an appointment as a member of staff of this university for at least two years
  • Graduates of another university of not less than five years standing who have also held a Fellowship of this university for at least two years

International Students

The University is a UKVI Student Sponsor, and international students are welcome to apply. However, they must meet the same entry requirements as UK students.


Teaching and Assessment

At the end of the registration period, candidates will submit their published works, along with a 20,000-word commentary indicating the area of knowledge to which the published work relates and the ways in which it makes a significant and original contribution to learning.


The submission will be assessed by three Examiners, at least two of whom will be External Examiners.

The fees for this course are:


  • UK students: £8,267 (full-time), £4,133 (part-time)
  • International students: £14,500 (full-time), £7,250 (part-time)
