Introduction
This programme offers the opportunity to gain a GTCS recognised qualification in Mindfulness through practice, reflection and greater understanding of the impact of mindfulness in the classroom.

Mindfulness is an innate capacity of the mind to be aware of the present moment in a non-judgemental way. It opens up the possibility for more self-awareness, better concentration, emotional intelligence and self-regulation, including the ability to manage anxiety and stress.
Mindfulness Professional Recognition is delivered with a focus on development of your own practise, ability to gain greater self-awareness through reflection and an understanding of the impact, ethics and tools for taking mindfulness into the classroom.
We are not training you to be a mindfulness teacher, you are already a trained teacher, we are supporting you to:
- Effectively lead mindfulness sessions
- Understand the core principles of mindfulness
- Develop an effective mindfulness strategy for the classroom, with consideration of ethical, moral issues and the potential impact of mindfulness
In addition to the professional recognition from the General Teaching Council of Scotland (GTCS), you will be awarded 30 credits at masters level which can be used towards a flexible route to Masters in Education.
What You'll Study
GTCS accreditation and the 30 Scottish master’s APL award is a 4 stage process:
- Mindfulness training through our Discovering Mindfulness (on-line 12 week) course or approved provider- an additional fee required for this course.
- Mindfulness practice and reflection (6 months): assessed through reflective and academic writing(1500 words).
- Mindfulness in the Classroom (on-line 12 week)course- an additional fee required for this course.
- Professional Enquiry project: Research in applying mindfulness to an area of interest within the field of Education(4500 words).
- On successful completion of all four stages participants will create and submit an e-portfolio for assessment and accreditation.

Mindfulness Professional Recognition is delivered with a focus on development of your own practise, ability to gain greater self-awareness through reflection and an understanding of the impact, ethics and tools for taking mindfulness into the classroom.
We are not training you to be a mindfulness teacher, you are already a trained teacher, we are supporting you in developing you own mindfulness practise in order to lead mindfulness sessions, an understanding of the core principles of mindfulness, enabling you to develop a mindfulness strategy for the classroom, ethical and other issues specifically aimed at implementing mindfulness in a classroom.
In addition to the professional recognition from the General Teaching Council of Scotland (GTCS), you will be awarded 30 credits at masters level which can be used towards a flexible route to Masters in Education.
We will endeavour to make all course options available. However, these may be subject to change - see our Amendments to Programmes and Courses document. In exceptional circumstances there may be additional fees associated with specialist courses, for example field trips.
Fee Information
Tuition Fees will be charged as per Postgraduate Taught Modular Fee Programmes. Students are expected to undertake 30 credits.
Please note below that there are two fee rates: Home / EU / RUK and International. Your fee classification will be determined upon submission of an application.
Discovering Mindfulness and Mindfulness in the classroom are standalone online courses with separate fees.
Scholarships

Qualifications
An undergraduate degree (Hons 2.2 or better) is a normal requirement, including a teaching qualification, either PGDE or MA Education.
English Language Requirements
To study for a Postgraduate Taught degree at the University of Aberdeen it is essential that you can speak, understand, read, and write English fluently. The minimum requirements for this degree are as follows:
