Overview

The FdSc in Animal Therapy and Rehabilitation is designed to prepare you for a career in the animal complimentary physical therapy and rehabilitation industry. The first year provides a wide background in animal science and utilises the animal facilities to develop your animal handling and management skills. The second year focuses on developing your knowledge of the principles and application of therapy techniques in a wide range of therapies, developing your practical skills, including utilising the onsite, canine hydrotherapy facilities.

On completing this course, you may progress on to our BSc top-up course or move into employment in this rapidly growing industry. This course is for people who might have current or previous experience working with animals. However, we also welcome applications from those of you with a desire to gain qualifications which would equip you to work in an animal therapy related industry.

Tuition Fees

• Home (UK) full time off campus: £7,700
• Home (UK) part time off-campus: £5,140
• International full time off-campus: £9,900

Please note, tuition fees for Home students may increase in subsequent years both for new and continuing students in line with an inflationary amount determined by government. Oxford Brookes University intends to maintain its fees for new and returning Home students at the maximum permitted level.

How and When to Pay

Tuition fee instalments for the semester are due by the Monday of week 1 of each semester. Students are not liable for full fees for that semester if they leave before week 4. If the leaving date is after week 4, full fees for the semester are payable.

Further Offer Details

We seek students who have the potential to make good scientists and accept that qualifications are not the only indicator of future potential. Entrants to the programme should normally possess the following:

• Either, two years' work experience and a current role in an appropriate workplace setting; previous experience practising or studying Science; and a line manager's letter of support
• Or, a minimum of 80 UCAS points, including a science subject, which could arise from the following:
  • BTEC Subsidiary Diploma, Diploma, Extended Diploma or other equivalent qualifications, such as GNVQ/NVQ or other Level 3 vocational qualifications.
  • A minimum of one pass at A-level or 6-unit Vocational A-level, plus three passes at GCSE (grades A–C), or O-level (grades A–C) normally including Mathematics, English Language and Science.

Specific Entry Requirements

It may be possible, in certain situations, to gain accreditation of prior learning to enable students to enter the course with advanced standing or gain exemption from an element/ elements of the programme. This is assessed on an individual basis and is awarded in line with Oxford Brookes University’s regulations on accreditation of prior learning.

Students who obtain sufficient CAT points at level 4 in appropriate modules from alternative institutions may be granted entry at Level 5.

Students must be at least 17½ years of age.

English Language Requirements

• IELTS: 6.0 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in the reading and writing components; or previous experience studying in English at UG level.

Credit Transfer

Many of our courses consider applications for entry with credit for prior learning. Each application is individually assessed by our credit entry tutors.

If you would like more information about whether or not you may be eligible for the award of credit, for example from an HND, partly-completed degree or foundation degree, please contact our Admissions team.

We operate the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). All undergraduate single modules are equivalent to 7.5 ECTS credits and double modules to 15 ECTS credits. More about ECTS credits.
