Overview

This dissertation module enables you to design and conduct a small research project of your own, relevant to your professional practice and specific Advanced Practice Masters programme.


It is an opportunity to explore the professional practice dilemma identified in the Applied Research Methods module and to seek a viable solution to this practice problem by:


  • collecting primary data
  • undertaking secondary data analysis
  • conducting a clinical audit or a service evaluation for completion of the module.

You are allocated a supervisor for the duration of the module and will receive individual research supervision.


Entry Requirements

This module can only be taken if enrolled in the following Masters Programmes:


  • MSc Advanced Nursing Practice
  • MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice
  • Integrated Degree Apprenticeship Advanced Clinical Practitioner

Fees Quoted

Fees quoted are for the first year only. If you are studying a course that lasts longer than one year your fees will increase each year.


How and When to Pay

Tuition fee instalments for the semester are due by the Monday of week 1 of each semester. Students are not liable for full fees for that semester if they leave before week 4. If the leaving date is after week 4, full fees for the semester are payable.

Learning and Assessment

You will work with your research supervisor to develop and implement a small-scale research project.


You will be given the opportunity to:


  • develop a research question and proposal
  • conduct a rigorous literature review
  • gather and analyse primary or secondary data
  • develop conclusions to answer the research question
  • write up an extensive dissertation on the research project
  • work independently in developing their research project
  • seek support and guidance from a supervisor and other subject experts in designing and managing their research project
  • reflect on their learning about engaging in research.

Assessment

Option 1: Written Dissertation 10,000 words, dissertation thesis


Option 2: Journal Style Research Report, and conference style poster, presentation and abstract
