Education Studies - SEN, Disabilities and Inclusion (with Foundation Year)

Overview

This course explores the world around the child with a focus on children with additional needs. Students will develop a specialist knowledge of the demands and needs of children with special needs or disabilities and learn skills to launch a rewarding career.

Course Details

Course Structure

  • Foundation Year: Study a Foundation in Humanities, building confidence and essential academic skills.
  • Year 1: Explore human development, education from medieval times to now, and new approaches like outdoor learning.
  • Year 2: Examine the developing brain, contemporary issues around children with diverse needs, and tailor parts of the course to your interests.
  • Year 3 (Optional): Choose a year abroad at a partner university or continue to your final year.
  • Final Year: Study young people in challenging circumstances, alternative learning spaces, and complete a dissertation.

Learning and Teaching

  • A wide variety of modules ensure that you will be able to develop a depth of knowledge about complex educational issues.
  • Modules involve tackling discrimination, addressing inequalities, challenging attitudes and beliefs, being an advocate for children and young people, and making a positive difference.

Assessment

  • Assessment is 100% coursework.
  • Coursework may be in the form of written essays, group presentations, observational studies, case studies, the creation of a learning object, critical/thematic reviews of literature, development of a portfolio of work, participation in online activities, independent study, or a dissertation.
