Overview

This single module explores verbal and non-verbal communication, and the development of supportive relationships, within the context of health and social care. It aims to build on existing skills and develop them within the student's area of practice. The module promotes a critical approach to sources of knowledge from nursing, health and social care and psychotherapy.


Entry Requirements

  • You must be from a respective healthcare background and have relevant practice experience on which to base the practice assessment.

  • If you wish to take this as a standalone module then you can apply to be a postgraduate associate student using our online application portal. You will need to register for the portal prior to proceeding with an application.

Tuition Fees

  • 2025 / 26: CPD Home (UK) part time: £1,000 per module if taken as a standalone module or £1,210 per module if taken as part of an award bearing course

  • Tuition fee instalments for the semester are due by the Monday of week 1 of each semester.
  • Students are not liable for full fees for that semester if they leave before week 4. If the leaving date is after week 4, full fees for the semester are payable.

Learning and Assessment

  • Learning activities are divided into 6 learning units.
  • Outline syllabus:
    • communication – process and context
    • working with difficult situations
    • working with families and organisations
    • psychological approaches to relationships 1: counselling and the caring relationship
    • psychological approaches to relationships 2: CBT and motivational interviewing
    • self-care, boundaries and supervision; skills workshops.
  • You will be assessed 100% through reflective essay. Assessment of practice experience (by supervisor / module leader) (pass/fail).
