Program Overview
In the diagnostic medical sonography program, you'll gain the practical skills and experience you need to thrive in this growing allied health specialized field.
We aim to prepare competent, entry-level abdominal-extended, and obstetrics and gynecology sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains. When you graduate, you'll be well prepared to sit for the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification and begin your rewarding career in DMS.
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs upon the recommendation of the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

Curriculum & Coursework Requirements
- General Education Courses: The general education courses can be completed part-time or full-time at Widener in an online, in-person, or hybrid format transferred from other accredited institutions (up to 60 credits). Minimum grades are required for each prerequisite course; see below for details.
- Program Core Courses: Once you have satisfied the general education requirements, you'll begin your program core courses.
A grade of 3.0 must be maintained for each course during the 20-month DMS portion of the program and sitting for national registry boards in physics, abdomen, and ob/gyn are also a requirement for graduation.
