Making Modular Music – Basics of Patching and Sound Design
Program Overview
Overview
This course outlines everything you need to know about modular synthesis and its terminologies. Split across 2 sessions, the topics cover a wealth of expert knowledge on control voltages and signal routing with real-world patch examples throughout.
Modular synthesisers can appear daunting (and sometimes perplexing) to the uninitiated, but they are the essential building blocks for any form of music synthesis. This course unravels these many mysteries into relevant and easy to understand parts.
Learning these synthesis tools can help unlock your own creative music-making potential.
Part one
Part one discusses what modular synthesisers are, Eurorack’s background and the standards it has set. Following a review of typical modules, these are then examined in detail and shown how they could be used within a variety of different patch examples.
Part two
Part two develops the key concepts and ideas from part one, introduces additional modules and shows how to create more complex patches which cover full sound design possibilities.
