Overview

Building on our rich history of developing pioneering graduates within product design and technology, we are delighted to launch a new MSc Engineering Product Design programme for September 2025 entry!


Master your Potential in Engineering Product Design

Are you an engineering graduate? Are you looking to master the creative, research and entrepreneurial skills to become a forward-thinking leader in Engineering Product Design? Then this course is perfect for you!


Through this master's level study programme, we will help you develop your design thinking, problem-solving and creativity, and prepare you for the rapidly evolving job market. You will graduate with the knowledge, skills and experience to create technology-integrated solutions that enhance user experiences, and you'll be able to responsibly integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) within design. Overall, you will enter the field with the business acumen and design and technology knowhow to thrive in cross-functional teams.


The program offers advanced training for professional registration as Chartered Technological Product Designers. Through research and a capstone project, students will gain a deep, metacognitive understanding of global design challenges and emerging technologies, preparing them to lead impactful change.


You’ll also exhibit in our end-of-year degree show Product of South Bank. Discover a round up of the 2024 projects on - from a material made of waste crustacean shells to a shower for accessible bathing in developing areas.

UK Qualifications

  • A degree equivalent to UK Honours degree (minimum 2nd class) in Engineering, Physical Sciences, Design, or a related technical field.
  • A satisfactory portfolio of design work.

International Qualifications

  • English language qualifications for international students: IELTS score of 6.5 with no less than 5.5 in any of the components.

Careers

The MSc in Engineering Product Design course is targeted at graduates in design, science and engineering fields who have prior experience of various technical backgrounds and wish to obtain further study and training in design thinking, creativity, and product design, alongside entrepreneurial skills that will enable them to capitalise on the value of their creative work, and make greater impact in their professional field, at managerial or senior level.


Graduates will combine the technical knowledgebase gained at undergraduate level with strategic design thinking and research, to be able identify and develop novel and complex innovations, technical product designs, and engineering design processes. They will be critical thinkers, creative, and empowered to pursue continued personal professional development within the framework of a career in engineering design.


The course is intended to provide a broad set of intellectual skills that are applicable to, and sought after, across wide ranging industries. Graduates have freedom of choice to direct the topic of their MSc Engineering Product Design dissertation project towards the field they intend to work in after graduation.
